The short version.
This policy describes how Ambient Scientific Inc. ("we", "us") handles information in the Application Forge Android application, package com.ambientscientific.applicationforge. It covers the app only. Our website and the rest of the company's activities are covered by the Ambient Scientific Inc. privacy policy, and this document does not replace any separate agreement you may have with us as a customer or evaluation partner.
Application Forge is a companion and development tool for Ambient Scientific boards. It is intended for developers, integrators and evaluation testers, not for general consumer use.
Data is keyed to an anonymous Firebase identifier issued to your installation - not to an email address, phone number, or advertising ID. We do not ask you to create an account and cannot look you up by name unless you typed one in.
Three rows below are not collected in this release, and they are the three that would carry anything about you. Fall Detection ships in prediction-only mode: it shows on screen whether a fall was detected and parses, stores and uploads nothing. The data-collection mode that does record a session is reached by tapping the connected board's card seven times and entering an access key, which is how we keep it to our own engineers - there is no sign-up, and nothing in the interface offers it to you. Because that mode is also the only thing that ever asks for a tester name and age, this release never prompts you for either.
Those rows are listed rather than omitted because the capability ships inside the app, and we would rather describe it now than surprise you later. If we enable session recording for general use, this policy will be updated to say so before that release ships.
| Information | Why the app has it | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Tester name and age | Labels a recorded session so a dataset can be interpreted later | Not collected in this release. Only the internal data-collection mode asks for these, and it is the only thing that uploads them. A normal install is never prompted |
| Anonymous Firebase user ID | The key your data is filed under, and what stops one install reading another's | Issued by and stored at Firebase (Google) |
| Bluetooth device identifier, name, signal strength and connection state of the board you pair with | Reconnecting to the last board, and recording which hardware produced a session | Firebase (Google) |
| Motion sensor readings from the board (accelerometer x, y, z) with timestamps | The substance of a recorded session; used to evaluate and improve on-device models | Not collected in this release. Only captured in the internal data-collection mode described above; in prediction-only mode, which is what a normal install runs, these are never parsed, stored or uploaded |
| Fall-detection events, false-positive marks you make, activity labels, model inference labels and confidence scores | Measuring how well the hardware and models perform | Not collected in this release. Same internal mode as the row above; prediction-only mode shows a fall on screen and records nothing |
| Whether you accepted or dismissed the battery-optimisation prompt | Diagnosing why a background session stopped early on a given phone | Firebase (Google) |
| Voice audio captured during a voice session, and the text transcribed from it | Live speech transcription - only when you have configured your own recognition key | Deepgram, over an encrypted connection. The transcribed text comes back to the app and is shown on screen; it is not uploaded to our cloud |
| Which firmware image you download, and the IP address that requests it | Serving firmware files from our distribution endpoint | Cloudflare (firmware-zoo.ambient-fw.workers.dev) |
| Your IP address, if you open the bundled Neon Rusher demo | That screen loads two web fonts from Google's font service | Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) |
| Screenshots and text you choose to attach to a support report | Only what you attach yourself, when you send a report from Help & Support | Sent by your own email or sharing app to our support address; we receive it as an ordinary email |
Four external services can receive data. We do not sell data to anyone, and none of these receive it for their own advertising.
Data uploaded to Firebase is stored on Google infrastructure and may be processed in the United States and other countries where Google operates. Deepgram and Cloudflare likewise operate internationally.
Some things the app creates never leave your phone unless you export or share them yourself:
Uninstalling the app removes all of this local data. It does not remove what was already uploaded - see section 7.
A monitoring session has to survive the screen turning off, so while one is active the app runs an Android foreground service of type "connected device". You will see a persistent notification titled Connected to <board name> showing how long the session has been running. That notification is Android's guarantee to you that the app is active - the service exists to hold the Bluetooth connection open and keep receiving sensor data, and it stops when you end the session. Nothing is collected in the background that is not described in section 2.
| Permission | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Nearby devices / Bluetooth (scan, connect) | Finding and connecting to your board. Declared with Android's neverForLocation flag. |
| Location (Android 11 and below only) | Required by those Android versions before they will return Bluetooth scan results. No location data is read or sent. |
| Notifications | The ongoing session notification described in section 5. |
| Foreground service (connected device) | Keeping a session alive with the screen off. |
| Storage (Android 9 and below only) | Writing an exported recording to your Downloads folder. Newer Android versions do not need it. |
The app does not request microphone access. It has no
RECORD_AUDIO permission and cannot record from your phone's
microphone. Audio in a voice session comes from the microphone on the connected
board, over Bluetooth - never from the phone.
The board identity and technical flags this release uploads are kept while the evaluation or development programme they belong to is active, and no longer than 24 months. The same limit applies to recorded sessions where the internal data-collection mode has been used, unless you have separately agreed a longer term with us.
To have your data deleted, email support@ambientscientific.ai with the subject "Application Forge data deletion". Because the app has no accounts, we cannot identify your records from your email address alone - please include the name of the board you paired with, the approximate dates you used the app, and the tester name if you were ever asked for one, and we will confirm what we found before deleting it. We will act on a verified request within 30 days and confirm when it is done.
You can also, at any time and without asking us: leave the recognition key blank so no audio is transmitted; end a monitoring session; delete exported recordings from your Downloads folder; or uninstall the app to erase all local data.
Application Forge is a developer and evaluation tool. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). The age field exists to label an adult tester's recorded session. If you believe a child's data has been uploaded, contact us and we will delete it.
Application Forge - including its fall-detection and activity-recognition features - is provided for research, development and evaluation. It is not a medical device, is not certified or approved by any regulator, and must not be relied on to detect a fall, summon help, or diagnose, treat or monitor any medical condition. Do not use it as a safety or emergency system.
No system is perfectly secure. Anonymous sign-in is designed to keep one install out of another's data; it is not an identity check, and we do not treat uploaded evaluation data as if it were confidential personal records.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a data-protection authority. Use the contact address below and we will respond within the time your law allows. Where we rely on consent - for example, a tester name and age typed into the internal data-collection mode - you may withdraw it by asking us to delete that data.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
If this policy changes, the updated version appears at this address with a new effective date. Material changes to what we collect or who receives it will also be reflected in the app's Play Store listing before the change ships.
We are the controller of the data described in this policy. Write to us about anything in it, including a request to see or delete what we hold. Naming the app in your subject line helps it reach the right people.
